What is the potential of the current trends in curriculum: Digital Delivery, Interest Driven, Skills 2.0:
  • Collaborating and customizing. Educators are learning to work together, with their students, and with other experts in creating content, and are able to tailor it to exactly what they need.
  • Critical thinking. Students are learning how to effectively find content and to discern reliable sources.
  • Democratizing education. With Internet access becoming more ubiquitous, the children of the poorest people are able to get access to the same quality education as the wealthiest.
  • Changing the textbook industry. Textbook publishers are finding ways to make themselves relevant to their digital audience.
  • Emphasizing skills over facts. Curriculum incorporates skill-building.

Curriculum Integration Experience

My career in educational technology began in 1994 and over my 16 years of leadership and participation, I have been responsible for training educators and students in the application of technology to teaching and learning.


Instructor/Data Manager/Assistant Director ICT, Frankfurt International School 2006 - Present:

Assistant Director ICT
- Member of Administrative Council, Futures Committee, Education Committee, Grade 7 Laptop Implementation Team
- Developed 1:1 Learning Wiki as a reference site for school community to learn about and answer the questions about Grade 7 1:1 Learning Initiative. (Apple MacBook and MacBook Pro based), http://wiki.fis.edu/1to1Learning
- Responsible for facilitating ICT Coordinator Leadership Team meetings
- Responsible for coordinating student information system and virtual learning environment reviews during the 2011 - 2012 school year.
- Member ICT Review Committee defining the ICT skills expected of our learners in their journey through the grade levels at Frankfurt International School.
- Member Trans-Disciplinary Committee defining the Digital Citizenship skills required of all members of our school community.

Data Manager
- Implemented SERCO student information system within all divisions, trained faculty/staff and parent/student community, provide on-going support for all functions.
- Support all data systems used at the school: Whipplehill, FinalSite, Destiny, Studywiz, CAS Manager, Googledocs, Active Directory, Rosetta Stone, VoiceThread, Rubicon Atlas, NWEA MAP testing etc.
- Work closely with administration to implement technology based solutions for administrative tasks: electronic report distribution, attendance tracking, reporting, real-time data availability.

Instructor
-Taught Design Technology: Systems & Control course to 6 - 9th grade students. Course used the Design Cycle to explore the use of systems and control in the design of personal and commercial product development.
- Used discovery based learning, for students in 6th and 7th grade to apply LEGOs and LEGO Robolab programming (time sequence and if/then/else response) to the operation of mechanical based systems.
- Used discovery based learning, for students in 9th grade to apply the Design Cycle to creation of a robot that met student generated requirements. (See x-Design Technology)
- Used Google Sketchup and Autodesk 3DS Max for students in 8th grade to develop skills in 3D modeling and design. (See x-Design Technology)

Instructor (Distance Learning) Introduction to Computers course (BA101), Monfort College of Business 2006 - 2007:
- First teacher to instruct BA101- Introduction to Computers course as a distance learning on-line course through Blackboard (Blackboard) VLE. Responsible for full development and delivery of on-line curriculum. Taught the course during my 1st year living in Germany. Supplemented Blackboard tools with e-mail and Camtasia Studios screen recordings to communicate and teach the course.

Director of Technology, Monfort College of Business 2000 - 2006:
- Chair College Technology Committee
- Managed MSDNAA Partnership (Microsoft Development Network Academic Alliance) and IBM Academic Initiative program (IBM Academic Initiative)
- Implemented and trained faculty on the use of Blackboard (Blackboard) as a course supplement tool. Removed the use of "purchasable coursepaks", providing course supplementary material on-line for all business courses by 2005.
- Computer Recommendation Brochure (2005 originated concept, 2009-2010 brochure authored by current Director)

- Classroom Technology Guidelines (2004 originated concept, developed revised version still in use by College)

- Developed software application request form (still in use by College)
- Computer Proficiency Exam program (proctored exams, managed database of student test administration and performance)
- Developed and instructed Professional Development courses for college faculty and administrators.
- Taught Introduction to Computers course to Business majors. Course consisted of preparing students for Computer Profiency Exam on use of the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Access, OneNote, Windows OS).
- Taught Junior level courses in TCP/IP Networking and Network Security.


Director of Technology, Montrose County School District 1994 - 2000:
- Committee Chair Technology Curriclum Scope and Sequence Development (written in 1998, still in use):

- Chair District Technology Committee, Advisor Building Technology Committees
- Developed software/hardware application request form
- Provided direction and support to principals and teachers in the selection and application of technology in support of curriculum.
- Developed and instructed Professional Development courses for teachers and administrators (basic, intermediate and advanced computer skills)
- Worked directly with HS teachers providing idea generation and support for Computer Application, Business Application, Electronic Media and CAD Architecture courses.
- Worked directly with MS teachers providing curriculum course ideas for participation in NASA Passport to Mars project in 1996-1997 (Passport To Mars) and pull-out computer course teaching typing and basic computer skills.
- Worked directley with ES teachers to implement one computer classroom and multiple computers in the classroom in the curriculum. Implemented Accelerated Reader (Renaissance Learning AR) program in all 7 elementary libraries. Implemented Alphasmarts-NEO (AlphaSmarts-NEO) as a tool to bring one to one computing to elementary classrooms.
